Who should belly dance?
Everyone! No matter your age, shape, gender identity, fitness level, dance experience… We welcome you to explore this joyous and challenging dance form.
I want to learn to belly dance. How do I start?
Fantastic! You’ve come to the right place. We have open studio classes several nights a week. Each evening has a different instructor teaching a different style of belly dance. To learn more, go to studiodatura.com and find our class calendar. Any class open to the public will be posted here, and, if you click on a class link, you will be directed to more information about the skill level, teacher, topic and cost for that class.
When should I start?
Some of our classes are run in a series of 4-, 6- or 8-weeks, in which case it is often beneficial (though not required) to start on the first day of that series. But many of our classes are simply ongoing, with an opportunity to jump in whenever you’re ready. If you are still uncertain, email studiodatura@gmail.com with your questions.
On your first day of class, we encourage you to come 10 minutes early to complete our new student intake form, get a brief orientation to the studio space, pay for class (if you haven’t already done so online), and meet your instructor.
How much does it cost?
Each teacher handles their own class pricing and payments, but all teachers offer some combination of drop-in pricing, class cards, and/or series purchases.
What should I wear to class?
We recommend wearing clean, stretchy layers that you are comfortable moving in. Some dancers also choose to wear a hip scarf or dance belt. We do ask that the studio remain a “shoe free zone”, though soft-soled dance shoes (such as ballet slippers) are allowed, if they have not been worn outside.
What should I bring to class?
We encourage you to bring a reusable water bottle with a secure lid. (Stay hydrated!) If it supports your learning style, a notebook and pen are certainly welcome. Yoga mats and finger cymbals are also useful for some classes. Consult with your teacher to learn more.
Where can I park?
There is no designated parking lot for the studio, but there is typically plenty of space available on the street for parking. Occasionally, our next door neighbors at the Wonder Ballroom have an early show, and parking can be a little more complicated those days. If you are concerned, you can check their website for the concert schedule.
